Introducing the Explorer

A Curious Volunteer,

Full-time Foodie,

Amateur Cook

Through taking on these roles, I seek to explore the children's experience with K-6 school food in New York City.

Leah Li

I am an undergraduate student at New York University, majoring in Nutrition and Dietetics. As a current urban resident of NYC, I am fascinated by the ways in which nutrition knowledge evolves and disseminates to the diverse population in the city and globally. Since the start of my undergraduate career, different volunteer and internship experiences have taken me to numerous sites where food plays an essential role. These include school kitchens, hospitals, private nutrition practices, and food marketing companies. My research interests include the evaluation of nutrition education, telehealth platforms, and community health programs. This time, I explored the K-6 school cafeterias in NYC to gain a better understanding of the children's experiences and to examine if the food offerings, nutrition standards, and complimentary education are effective in helping the children become health-conscious individuals.
